Description:
Since 1942, the Historical Society of Central Florida has kept our region's history alive.
Through the support of members, and with foundation collections from the South Florida Historical and Archaeological Society (est.1890) and the Antiquarian Society (est.1932), this organization has amassed a variety of fascinating and entertaining collections that now call the historic 1927 Orange County Courthouse home. In 1989, the courthouse was recognized as historically significant landmark and a task force was appointed to determine the best possible re-use of the building.
As plans for a new courthouse went underway, the plan to renovate the existing courthouse for use as The History Center was endorsed by the Board of County Commissioners in 1993 and the design process began in 1995. The new courthouse was completed in 1997 and the 1960's annex that stood in what is now Heritage Square Courtyard was destroyed the next year. Renovations to the building began in 1999 and The History Center opened its doors in September 2000.
The History Center is an invaluable resource for our community and the families who live here. With continued member support, it can remain so for generations to come.
The History Center is located on the corner of Magnolia Avenue and Central Boulevard in the heart of downtown Orlando.
