History
On August 1, 1960, the town of Lutie ceased to exist and the new Theodosia was named. All that is left of Lutie is the cemetery, the name on the church, and the new school. The Ledbetter store still stands with the sign in front saying "groceries, feed, and gas." It was Lutie's last post office. Since then, the new Theodosia has grown and is now the "Record Bass Capital of Missouri." It was incorporated in 1970 and had 245 residents by 1990. At the eastern end of the Theodosia bridge, a retirement village named Theodosia Hills was built and incorporated as Sundown in 1980.
Despite the fact that Bull Shoals lake is dotted with resorts and retirement homes, much of the hill culture remains in the Theodosia area. On a good-right, fine-right, or fair-good day during the hunting season you can still take your rifle-gun or your shot-gun and kill game for your table. Or perhaps, find a bull goose of a fisherman to show you how to jump or goose a bass by slapping the water close to the bank causing the bass to jump right out of an Ozark stream and into your boat!
