History

The Kid 'N Ewe and Lamas Too festival began in 1989 by a small group of Natural Colored Wool Grower Association members, who were hand spinners and/or hand weavers. Their goal was to promote natural Texas fiber by educating the public and marketing the products of the animals they raised. The first November event was held in Hamilton, and then moved to Goldthwaite. As the festival grew from a back yard gathering, it moved to Bartlett, then to Johnson City, and in 2001 to Boerne. 2018 we began a new tradition by moving this event to Kerrville, Texas. Fiber Producers of Texas, Inc. (FPT) was incorporated in 1998 to manage organization of the annual festival and is its primary sponsor.

2020 the torch was passed to Lyn Christoph and Jennifer Kulick. The event name was changed to reflect a new era for Kid 'N Ewe to Texas Fleece & Festival. The name change has given the event a fresh perspective.

Texas Fleece & Fiber Festival is celebrating its third year continuing the tradition of being Texas' Premier Fiber Festival, formerly Kid'N Ewe and Llamas Too! We celebrate 34 plus years of bringing together fiber artists, enthusiasts and producers together under one roof! Texas Fleece & Fiber Festival is an in-person event. Vendors from all over the Great State of Texas and beyond will offer their products and art over the course of three days. Teachers and speakers will offer classes from fiber arts to animal husbandry practices. There will be live demonstrations from pioneers, sheep herding to washing and dying of fleeces, exhibits and classes along with several smaller events: Texas Make It with Wool, TAGRA Jackpot Show and Texas Sheep Dog Association.

Texas Make It with Wool is the State Chapter of the National Make It With Wool. TMIWW will present sewing and fiber arts competiton that is supported by the American Sheep Industry, Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers and Hill Country Sheep and Goat Organization. The competition will conclude with a dinner and fashion show.

Texas Angora Goat Raiser's Association will hold its Annual Jack Pot Show on Saturday from 9:00am to 1:00pm in the Arena, followed by a live demonstration of herding dog action by a member of the Texas Herding Dog Association.

Texas A&M AgriLife Research and Extension Center, San Angelo, will be accepting fiber samples for testing with equipment made available by the Bill Sims Wool & Mohair Research Laboratory.

John Lewis will be representing the Texas Sheep Dog Association. John became an active and frequent competitor and has served as a TSDA director and president. The border collie you will see displaying her talents is a seasoned competitor and has competed in trials all over the U.S.
