Regional School District Number 8 was established in April 1955 by the Connecticut State Board of Education to educate the students of Hebron, Andover, and Marlborough in grades 7-12. The new district was created in response to explosive growth of the area after World War II. Of special note, the original language of the state statute creating the region labeled it "Regional High School District Number 8". At the request of the first Board of Education Chairperson, Mr. John H. Yeomans, the name was amended in June of 1956 to "Regional School District Number 8". Also, of special note, Bolton was originally part of the planning process for Regional School District Number 8, but did not join the compact.
