History:
Long Bridge Golf Course is conveniently close to Springfield, just north of the Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport. Designed and built by Merle Buerkett, the course overlooks the Sangamon River Valley, and in its natural setting makes you feel as though you have altogether left the city. Long Bridge has a mission to maintain an outstanding golf experience for players of all calibers and has been providing challenging scenic golf since 1998.
In the fall of 2004, under the supervision of Doug Falk and Merle Buerkett, construction of the driving range and redesign of number 1 tee and fairway began. Since opening in June 2005, under supervision of Arden Lear, these improvements have grown in and nicely complement the high standards of maintenance that Arden and his crew strive for throughout the course.
Convenience to the customer is key to this practice facility. The range and ball dispenser areimmediately adjacent to the concrete parking area, and only 30 feet from the practice range tee. The range tee box is approximately 60 feet deep by 200 feet wide and is opened year round, weather permitting. Prepaid E-key or token purchases allow golfers to pay in advance, grab their clubs, fill a bucket of balls and start practicing within minutes of arrival…what a great way to spend your lunch hour.
The fairways and tee boxes are bluegrass, the greens are bent grass, and the roughs a mixture of bluegrass fescue. These all together make up generous and playable areas surrounded by natural tall grasses. The design allows the course to blend into the beauty of the two six acre ponds and the surrounding timber. The natural areas and trees are home to a multitude of birds and other wildlife.
The greens at Long Bridge are medium generous in size and roll true. Planning locations for approach shots to the greens will challenge the golfers’ mental game as well as their ability to execute good golf shots. Once on the green, you better look twice to line up a perfect lag or one putt (due to the undulation and typical speed of the greens).
The course requires you to bring all your clubs. This 3000 yd course has 2 par 3 holes, 5 par 4 holes, and 2 par 5 holes. Our website has a multitude of pictures which will speak louder than words. If accuracy and putting are your game then Long Bridge Golf Course is a perfect fit for you.
