About Us:

Located in the heart of Berkshire County, Holiday Brook Farm grows premium-quality foods and other products for our local community and far-flung customers and friends. A fourth generation farm with 1300 acres of forest and farmland, we have hiking trails to enjoy and animals to visit any time that you come. Our farm store offers our maple products, grass-fed beef, lamb and pastured pork, organic vegetables, wool yarn, Guiseppe's local honey, pumpkins, Christmas trees, as well as various other local products, including Barts Ice Cream, Appalachian Naturals dressings and Fire Cider. We also sell firewood, our famous "Black Gold" compost, hay and straw. Our store is open Tuesday thru Saturday, 9-5, and occasional Sundays for seasonal doings.

We are committed to providing our customers with the healthiest, highest quality, most environmentally-responsible and humane food around. Our holistic farm practices follow sustainable, natural models to enhance the health and productivity of our crops, livestock and fields. Although not certified organic, we are guided by the standards put forth by NOFA and USDA National Organic Program.

We manage the fertility of our fields using cover crops, rotations and our renowned "black gold" compost. We don’t use any conventional chemical fertilizer on our fields, nor any pesticides, herbicides, fungicides or other chemicals.

History:

As a New England farm, the landscape is rich in history just by its very location and that the farm has been owned for generations by a prominent New England family actually makes it easier to find written information about it. Crane & Company is a well known paper company, one of the last family-owned paper mills in the country and the history of Dalton, Crane & Co and Holiday Brook Farm are enmeshed. We have three essays/memoirs written and recounted by local individuals who have a connection to this place and give you a sense of the timeline and rich history that surround this farm and the individuals who owned and worked it. Holiday Brook Farm was originally part of Flintstone Farm, a 3000+ acre farm that was amassed by Fred Crane, Sr at the turn of the 20th century.
