The Gig Harbor Lions Club was chartered on October 23,1931 as a spinoff of the Bremerton Central Lions Club. Reuben H. Berkheimer was the first president or "King Lion".

Through the years the club has sponsored two new clubs: the Peninsula Lions and the Key Peninsula Lions.
