Mission:

The Mission of the First Baptist Church of Abington is to glorify God and to make Christ known to persons who do not believe in him. The truths of the Bible will be presented through teaching and preaching in order that persons may learn of the saving grace of Jesus Christ and decide to follow his ways.

About Us:

We are a church family in a time of change. Interim Pastor Mike is with us however a Pastoral Search committee was elected July 16. 2015.

The church is comprised of people. It is not just a building, but the community of people who attend. The Bible teaches us that no one is perfect except God. If you're not perfect either we would love to have you join with us in worship. Together we will learn how to be transformed [by God] through the renewing our minds. We believe that God is in the business of mending broken lives and restoring them to serve Him and to serve other people.

History:

Florence Meserve Goetchius described the beginnings of a small organization of believers that has become the First Baptist Church of Abington. Many Baptist families were either attending local churches of other denominations or were associated with Baptist churches in Whitman and Rockland. After a series of nightly conversations, a group of twelve men and women agreed to organize in January 1886, and be known as the First Baptist Church of North Abington. On Wednesday evening, March 3, 1886, the church was formed. There were twenty-eight charter members present. September 14, 1887, a church building was dedicated. That building is our sanctuary today. Members, local businessmen, and funds from the Massachusetts State Convention helped to make the building possible. During this period, the first Sunday School program was organized, and on March 11, 1888, the first baptism was held in the new church.
