The Town of Speedway, Indiana was officially incorporated in 1926. The entire Indianapolis Motor Speedway is actually located within the limits of the Town of Speedway. The town is a separate governmental unit within Indianapolis with its own town council, police department, fire department, street department, water and wastewater utilities, school system, and public library.
