About Us :
Church of the Western Reserve is a congregation of the Presbyterian Church, USA. Our church was organized in 1961 by the Rev. David Sherwin, originally meeting at Orange High School. The first sanctuary, now used as a chapel, was built in 1966, with the later addition of a fellowship hall.

In 1997 a new sanctuary (including additional office space) was dedicated. At the front of the sanctuary is a hand-crafted cross (picture) by local artist, Norbert Koehn. It is a Tree of Life design, carved from red oak, approximately eight feet high.

Throughout the week, our building is filled with the sounds of music, as students from Fairmount Fine Arts, and students of other teachers utilize our building. One of the largest women’s AA groups meets here midweek, and other community groups use our building periodically.

Like most churches, we pride ourselves on great meals. Even without a full meal, however, we enjoy gathering each Sunday for fellowship, when all ages come together and for conversation and “goodies”!

Our congregation of 150+ members come from north, south, east and west - literally! Every Sunday, folks from Mayfield Heights, Bainbridge, Chesterland and Shaker Heights, (as well as many other communities) come together for study, worship and fellowship. Students come from at least seven different school districts!

In the sanctuary you may find an infant in the same pew with a senior citizen. There will be original members who have been with us from the very start sitting with a member who joined just last month. Diversity is valued. And we cherish the sense of community that brings all of us together in Jesus Christ.
