History of the Boyce Baptist Church

A few members of the Bethel Church in Clarke County were residing in and around Millwood,VA. For some time they held service in a hall owned by Mr. J.C. Laws. Rev. George F. Williams residing in Millwood, worshipped with them. 

At a meeting on August 28, 1888, it was decided to organize a church in Millwood. There were seven men and twelve women present. Messengers were appointed to make application for membership in the Shenandoah Association. The church was to be called the Millwood Baptist Church. In time a small church was built. On a Sunday in August 1893 the members met for the first time in the new church building. The members continued to hold services here until the organization was moved to Boyce, VA. In 1921 the church building was sold to another Baptist group. 

While still in Millwood, a lot was selected in Boyce to build a parsonage. This parsonage was built in 1912. Due to no materials in the Millwood Church, a Sunday school was organized in 1914 in Boyce. They met in Simpson's Hall, later know as Wyndham's Hall. 

On October 19, 1919 fourteen members were present at a business meeting in Wyndham's. They decided to move the organization of the church from Millwood to Boyce. On October 21, 1919 the Boyce Baptist Church was constituted as one of the twenty-six churches in the Shenandoah Association. As a beginning of new life, the list of members were 23 in number, was transferred to the new location. 

In 1920 a corner lot in Boyce was purchased as the future site of a Baptist Church. The people worked and gave for the new brick church building, which was completed and dedicated in July 1923. An educational building was built in 1957. 

In 1971 the church decided to survey an area known as Shenandoah Farms and start a mission there. The mission constituted into a church in 1977 called Shenandoah Farms Baptist Church. During the 100 years of history of our church, we have had approximately 948 members to unite into our fellowship. As of October 2001, our combined resident and non-resident.
