The Asombro Institute for Science Education (home of the Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park), a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, is dedicated to increasing scientific literacy by fostering an understanding of the Chihuahuan Desert. To achieve this mission, we currently serve more than 14,000 K-12 students and 5,000 adults in southern New Mexico and west Texas with interactive, inquiry-based science education programs each year. These programs are designed to increase understanding of desert ecosystems and promote the application of critical thinking skills to local and global issues.
The Chihuahuan Desert Nature Park is a 935-acre that is a topographically and biologically diverse site located north of Las Cruces, New Mexico in the northern Chihuahuan Desert. The site currently features a 1.5-mile walking trail with plant identification signs, the Desert Experience Mini-Trail, picnic areas, a science demonstration plot, a parking lot, waterless restroom facilities, and a 150-seat amphitheater.
