Statement From the Massachusetts Republican Party on Juneteenth

Government and Politics

June 19, 2024

Boston, MA – On June 19, 2024, we commemorate Juneteenth, a pivotal moment in American history when, on June 19, 1865, the last enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas were informed of their freedom, two and a half years after President Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. This day serves as a profound reminder of the enduring struggle for freedom, justice, and equality that has shaped our nation.

The Massachusetts Republican Party stands in solidarity with the Black community in recognizing the significance of Juneteenth. This day not only marks the end of a dark chapter in our history but also celebrates the resilience, strength, and enduring spirit of Black Americans. It is a day to honor the countless contributions that Black Americans have made to our country, in the face of adversity and oppression.

We reaffirm our commitment to policies that empower individuals, support families, and create opportunities for all Americans. The values of freedom and opportunity that Juneteenth embodies are the very principles that guide our party, and we are dedicated to ensuring these values are upheld for every citizen.

Let us use this day to reflect on our shared history, acknowledge the progress we have made, and commit to the work that lies ahead. Together, we can build a future that honors the legacy of those who fought for freedom and continue to strive for a more just society.
