ICYMI: Hoekstra: Battling for Election Integrity in Michigan

Government and Politics

October 4, 2024

In case you missed it, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Pete Hoekstra is out with a new op-ed in honor of National Poll Watcher Week, highlighting the Trump Campaign and the RNC’s dedication to election integrity and ensuring that Michiganders’ right to vote is protected.

“In the last few weeks, we have sued Benson twice for failing to follow the law and ignoring ballot safeguards. Specifically, she has ignored ballot number matching and absentee ballot verification rules. In response to our verification lawsuit, she has agreed to change her instructions to include proof of verification — a big win for election integrity. Last month, we sued the city of Detroit for failing to hire enough Republican poll workers — hiring seven times as many Democrats and dealing a blow to election transparency. Our lawsuit is fighting for an equal number for the general election, because that’s what voters deserve — and it’s the law,” Hoekstra wrote.

Governor Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson have a track record of ignoring Michigan’s election laws, creating a “system open to chaos and fraud.”

Pete Hoekstra: Battling for Election Integrity in Michigan

The Detroit News

Michigan’s history as a swing state has taken on ground-zero importance in the upcoming presidential election. Former President Donald Trump’s campaign, the Republican National Committee (RNC) and the Michigan GOP have a laser-focused priority: make it easy to vote and hard to cheat.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson are focused on the opposite. They have gone beyond turning a blind eye to Michigan’s long record of election integrity violations; they have created and supported a system open to chaos and fraud.

Michigan’s election issues go straight to the top. Recently, the Trump Campaign, RNC and MIGOP sued the Biden-Harris Administration, Whitmer and Benson for commandeering federal agencies to conduct voter registration. They are using the Department of Veterans Affairs, the Small Business Administration — and taxpayer dollars — not to support Michigan’s veterans or small businesses, but to engage in election activities. Federal agencies should not be diverted from their responsibilities to use government resources to influence elections. The designation of these agencies also violated state and federal law. This should not happen in Michigan, and it should not happen in America.
