From: High Point UniversityWho: High Point University and President Nido Qubein will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for the Workman School of Dental Medicine, which will be the state’s only private dental school. Dr. Scott De Rossi, founding dean of the Workman School of Dental Medicine, community leaders, and HPU families on campus for HPU’s Fall Family Weekend will be among the guests in attendance. Media are invited to attend.
What: Groundbreaking ceremony for the Workman School of Dental Medicine
When: Saturday, Sept. 23 at noon
Where: Congdon Hall, One N. University Pkwy, High Point, NC 27260
Why: HPU received a $32 million gift from the Rick and Angie Workman Foundation to establish the Workman School of Dental Medicine, which will welcome its inaugural class in the fall of 2024. The groundbreaking ceremony will celebrate construction starting soon on a three-story, 77,000-square-foot building that will be the home of the new dental school. The groundbreaking will be held during HPU’s Fall Family Weekend.
HPU’s dental school also achieved its initial accreditation from the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) on Aug. 24.
One of the hallmarks of HPU’s approach to dental education is HPU Health LLC, a network of dental practices owned and operated by the university with locations across the state, including High Point, Greensboro and Chapel Hill. These practices are already fully operational and treating patients, with additional practices to open in the future. Each of these practices will connect dental students with real-world learning opportunities under the guidance of trusted dentists with decades of experience.
