Gris-Gris Gumbo: Reads & Eats with Rick Koster at the Mystic & Noank Library

Join the Mystic & Noank Library to welcome Rick Koster for a discussion of his latest horror novel Gris-Gris Gumbo (JournalStone Publishing) as well as three earlier books. Gumbo will be provided for the audience to enjoy. Rick Koster is a longtime arts writer/columnist at The Day. He's the author of the just-out horror novel GRIS-GRIS GUMBO (JournalStone Publishing) as well as three earlier books -- all of which have performed in such a fashion as to position Rick as one of America's worst-selling authors. Fun to know: GRIS-GRIS GUMBO was written over 20 years ago and Rick had long since given up on it ever being published. Sometimes, ya just need a little bad luck charm.

"GRIS-GRIS GUMBO is a literary grimoire full of skin-crawling incantations. Well after I closed this tome, I still hear its pages whispering. Whatever dark arts Rick Koster is dabbling in here, he certainly cast a spell over me." - Clay McLeod Chapman, author of Ghost Eaters and Whisper Down the Lane.

About the book, “Green Hopkins is amused when his best friend, Crayton Breaux, gets a gig in a tourist voodoo shop. But when Cray accidentally interrupts a sinister ceremony in a mortuary, odd things start to happen. Green consults the elderly New Orleans R&B pianist Papa Hipolyte, who has a familiarity with the city’s substantial voodoo culture. Unbeknownst to Green, though, Papa is hiding a secret related to a dark voodoo sect and a famous restaurant called Gris-Gris Gumbo. And, unknown to either of them, Crayton is being slowly seduced by the cult and the restaurant’s mysterious proprietor, Maman Arielle. As Cray grows more distant and odd deaths begin to disrupt the French Quarter, Green and Papa consider desperate measures to save him — including sources from beyond the grave.”
