HELENA, MT. – Governor Greg Gianforte on May 2nd, issued the following statement after hearing reports of illegal immigrants being transported into Flathead County:

“I’m deeply troubled and frustrated by reports of illegal immigrants being flown into Flathead County. Joe Biden’s open border and stubborn refusal to act have created chaos and lawlessness and have put a growing burden on our law enforcement officers. I’ve repeatedly pressed Joe Biden to tell governors when he ships illegal immigrants to our states, who they are, and where they’re going. Shamefully, he hasn’t done any of it.

“Last year, Joe Biden let 300 illegal immigrants on the terrorist watch list into our country. Because of Joe Biden, we have no idea who’s crossing the border or where they’re being sent. Joe Biden’s refusal to tell governors about illegal immigrants he’s moving into our states threatens our communities, and it’s inexcusable.”

In September 2023, the governor led a 25-state effort to press Joe Biden to provide governors with accurate and detailed information on who is entering the country illegally, where they are relocating, how the federal government is processing their asylum applications, and whether they are being deported.

In February 2024, Gov. Gianforte in an in-person meeting with President Biden reiterated the need that the federal government provide governors with illegal immigrants’ relocation information.
