From: Montana Governor Greg GianforteGovernor Gianforte: "Montana Needs Colstrip"
HELENA, Mont. – Governor Greg Gianforte today issued a statement in response to NorthWestern Energy’s agreement with Avista Corp. to acquire ownership of Colstrip Units 3 and 4.
“We want people to invest in Montana who want to be in Montana, and that happened here with NorthWestern Energy,” Governor Gianforte said. “This development will better ensure Colstrip remains in service throughout its full, useful life, and it’s encouraging for Montanans who rely on the reliable, affordable electricity Colstrip generates.”
The governor continued, “Montana needs Colstrip. We saw that firsthand in December when we had record and near-record lows throughout the state, and we needed Colstrip to keep our lights and our heat on. I’m very encouraged about this announcement. It’s a promising step for the State of Montana and the people of Colstrip.”
Governor Gianforte has consistently encouraged stakeholders to come to the table and resolve ownership to keep Colstrip operating for its full, useful life.
NorthWestern Energy President and CEO Brian Bird yesterday recognized the governor for his efforts, saying, “We appreciate Montana Gov. Greg Gianforte’s commitment to support a solution to ensure that power from the Colstrip plant continues to be available for Montanans and for encouraging all parties to come to the table to work out a deal.”
