Gov. Holcomb Announces Acting Budget Director Joe Habig to Step Down From the State Budget Agency

INDIANAPOLIS - Governor Eric J. Holcomb announced today that Joe Habig will be stepping down as the Acting Budget Director of the Indiana State Budget Agency (SBA).

Habig was appointed as the Acting Director in April 2024 after serving over 12 years at the SBA and a total of 15 years in state government.

Under his leadership, the SBA accomplished the following:

- Successfully closed out FY 2024 with a positive annual surplus and combined reserve balances over $2.5 billion
- Developed four balanced budgets for Governor Holcomb and contributed to the development of balanced budgets for Governor Pence and Governor Daniels
- Deployed a new enterprise grants management system
- Implemented new financial management policies regarding federal grant compliance
- Provided one of the most accurate fiscal year revenue forecasts in the nation

Habig’s last day as Budget Director will be Friday, December 20th.

Habig, a native Hoosier, earned an undergraduate degree from Indiana University and a master’s degree from Indiana University’s Paul H. O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs. He has served more than nine years in Indiana’s Army National Guard and is currently the commander of Charlie Company, an infantry company in the 1st Battalion 293rd Infantry Regiment of the 76th Infantry Brigade.

An acting director will be announced at a later date.
