South Florida Book Festival

WORD! Celebrating 50 Years of Hip-Hop Culture
July 13-15, African American Research Library & Cultural Center, Details/Register
Hear from nationally known speakers, explore the roots of hip-hop culture and meet local authors at the 2023 South Florida Book Festival. This year’s theme brings together literature and visual and performing arts, featuring leaders, authors and scholars of Florida's hip-hop community. Reserve today--Space is limited for all sessions and they are expected to sell out.

Thursday, July 13:

Juneteenth @ Main Library

It’ll be an afternoon of celebration, information and education for everyone at Main Library’s free Juneteenth community event, featuring:

- Children’s Storytime and Craft, 11AM-Noon, Register
Sister Keachia hosts an interactive program featuring African drumming and dance, a special Juneteenth story and a craft.
- Free Green Screen Photo Shoot – All Ages Welcome, 11AM-4PM
Drop by, pick a fun background and take pictures with friends and family. Free color printouts while supplies last.

Juneteenth: A Musical Celebration: Take a ride through slavery, freedom and the Underground Railroad in this moving performance with alto Zoretta Hopkin as Harriet Tubman.

Live music from Dr. Clovis Shane LeMar & His Band; includes classics from Scott Joplin, The Mills Brothers, The Ink Spots, Count Basie, The Platters, The Coasters, Chuck Berry and Motown.

Community information session on drug awareness and prevention by the Drug Enforcement Administration.
