The Frederick Arts Council is pleased to announce Tactile Expressions, a juried group show of art by local and regional artists, at the Frederick Arts Council’s Gallery located at 1 N Market Street in the heart of Downtown Frederick June - August 2024.

Curatorial statement:

About the juror: Alyssa Imes is a sculptor, textile and performance artist who has exhibited work in galleries and public spaces throughout the DMV. Currently, she is teaching sculpture at Towson University. She holds a Bachelors of Fine Arts Concentration in Sculpture from Shepherd University and Master of Fine Arts from University of Maryland, College Park, MD.

Textures are an integral part of the artistic experience, adding depth, dimension, and sensory engagement to artwork. From the smoothness of polished surfaces to the roughness of raw materials, texture invites viewers to connect with art on a visceral level. Artists included in the Tactile Expressions show include: Esperanza Alzona, Craig Cavin, Richard Christin Jr., James Connors,  Don Coomes, Andrea Finch, Sarah Higgins, Juliet Drake Hossain, Emily Johnson, Victoria Jones, Beckie Laughlin, Sheryl Massaro, Michelle Ramos, Lori Niland Rounds, Ellen Olson Schippert, Cynthia Scott, Janet Seifert, Lisa Sheirer, Kristie Taylor, Behrouz Vatankhah, Richard Weiblinger, and Dylan Zingg.
