History

In 1945, nine people with a desire to worship and serve the Lord had a dream. That dream became a reality on June 21, 1946, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Borgen when Mount Prospect Evangelical Lutheran Church was organized. Church servicesnd Sunday School were held in member's homes and later at the old Central School.

The thirty-seven charter members were united in mission and the church quickly grew. Through hard work and great sacrifice they were able to break ground in 1947 for the little white cement block church on Evergreen Street.

The congregation continued to grow. In 1954, when the present sanctuary was constructed, the name was changed to St. mark Lutheran Church. The education wing was added in 1957 and the transept in 1963. Recognizing a need for a facility that would provide members and the community at large with educational and recreational programs that emphasized Christian ideals, the congregation built and dedicated the St. Mark Center in 1970. A major addition to the church providing accessibility and additional areas for fellowship was completed in 1998.

After sixty years, it is easy to see the Lord has indeed blessed the St. Mark family. As we look ahead let us follow the example of those who have gone before and continue to be "United in Mission" serving the Lord.
