Our School is called Shabbona. Do you wonder why? We asked Mr. Wright, a former Superintendent of Bourbonnais School District 53 about that when we interviewed him about building this school.

He told us that the people on the school board had a contest to find a good name for our school. Besides Shabbona, another choice for a name was Walt Disney School because Walt Disney was becoming very popular then.

Shabbona was a chief of the Potowatami who lived in this region. His name meant "Built Like a Bear". He was the leader who got along with the new people moving into his area.
