Saint Patrick Catholic Church

32 North Jones Avenue
815-857-2315

History:

Fr. J.A. Coughlin became the next pastor and the work of the church was completed. The first Mass was said on Christmas Day in 1885. Formal dedication of the church along with Confirmation took place on June 27, 1886, six months after the church actually stared being used by the people. Father Coughlin remained as pastor for six years. It must have been a pleasure for him to show the new church to his nephew, Peter J. Muldoon, who was visiting his uncle. This nephew later became the first bishop of the Diocese of Rockford. When the nephew was ordained a priest, he baptized six persons in Amboy and witnessed one marriage. The uncle, Father Coughlin, baptized nearly 200 people in the Amboy parish and witnessed about 62 marriages.

In 1891, Father Arthur P. Lonergan became the pastor.
In his four years here he baptized 69 persons and witnessed 30 marriages.
