Manitowoc Gun Club

The original Manitowoc Gun Club was organized prior to 1924, and was comprised of business men from Manitowoc and Two Rivers. Many of these members were avid duck hunters. Shooting was done at the western limits of the city near the Invincible Manufacturing Co. at south 26th and Franklin Street.

In 1925, the club moved to a new location east of the Two Rivers Road (now known as Memorial Drive) where it intersected with Reed Avenue. The club faced Lake Michigan, and shooting was done on Sundays. The new grounds were dedicated on June 7, 1925, and incorporated on April 11, 1927 as the Manitowoc Gun Club. A clubhouse and 2 trap fields graced the grounds. Registered trap tournaments were held and the club hosted the 1928 Wisconsin Trapshooting Championships.

About 1935, the club expanded and a skeet field was constructed. "Sub Trap" (similar to a 5 stand sporting clays including shooting from a duck skiff) was also held.

In 1937, the cost of a round of trap was $1.10 including targets and shells. Trap boys were paid 5 cents per shooter. A membership could be purchased for $2.00. The club was active until 1941 when the trap and skeet equipment was purchased by Guido Rahr and moved to his property at Branch. The clubhouse was moved a short distance away and now serves as a small home.
