The Land Conservancy of Lake County strives for the preservation, conservation, and management of open lands, natural areas, and ecosystems through full or partial interest in real property; and for increased student and citizen awareness and appreciation of the natural environment through public education and stewardship.

The goals of the Land Conservancy Of Lake County are similar in many respects to other groups, such as the Nature Conservancy, CorLands, the Audubon Society, or the Lake County Forest Preserve District. These organizations, however, are interested primarily in acquiring lands of exceptional ecological quality or those that comprise several hundred of thousand acres in size. A land owner who wishes to preserve a small woodland, or a developer required to set aside a wetland often has difficulty finding an entity willing and able to assume management responsibilities.

The Land Conservancy Of Lake County accepts large land donations as well as smaller parcels. With the ability to manage lands and maintain and preserve their natural value, LCLC's ownership can ensure that the landscape of Lake County continues to offer unique and beautiful surrounds for generations to come. LCLC's land holdings have been donated by family groups, individual citizens, and developers and include a large wetland area with endangered plant species, an upland wooded site, an open water pond in a subdivision, and a small vacant grassed lot in a residential neighborhood. Property is donated for many purposes ranging from a dedicated nature preserve for sensitive parcels to the transfer of small sites to further the efforts of LCLC.

The Land Conservancy Of Lake County as an independent corporation with its own charter, bylaws and Board of Directors, also cooperates and coordinates with local, state and national organizations for land acquisition, management and educational purposes. As an example, LCLC is a member of the Land Trust Alliance, a national umbrella organization of local and regional land trusts headquartered in Washington, D.C. LCLC also prides itself in its educational commitment by granting honorary memberships to students in local high school environmental clubs and encouraging students in their environmental concerns.
