Jane Stenson Elementary School

9201 Lockwood Avenue
847-967-9380

Historical or Interesting Facts:

Jane Stenson School was named after a long standing and highly regarded teacher in District 68. Jane Stenson began teaching in 1916 at Sharp Corner School on the corner of Skokie Boulevard and Gross Point Road, where the MCC Academy currently resides. Jane’s first salary was listed as $65.00 per month at that time. Jane went on to become the head teacher and then the principal at Sharp Corner School. While Jane never worked at our school, it was dedicated in her honor on October 8, 1954.

Originally, Jane Stenson School had six rooms, including a multipurpose room and office area. The school had about 200 students from Kindergarten to sixth grade back then. At one point, enrollment grew and the Kindergarten was housed in a church basement for a few years. When Old Orchard Junior High was built, sixth grade moved to the junior high school.

The school has evolved over time, but the quality education, exceptional teachers, supportive parents, involved PTA and fine, fine students remain.
