About Us:

Alfretta A. Harper is named after Mrs. Alfretta Allen Harper.  Mrs. Harper was a dedicated educator.  She was committed to the success of students in Clayton County for many years. 

Harper Elementary School opened in 2002 as an accredited school. 

We are located in Riverdale, Georgia in southern metropolitan Atlanta in Clayton County.  Riverdale is a suburban community, consisting of residential areas, retail businesses, and offices.  The school attendance area includes 5 apartment complexes, 2 mobile home parks, 1 residential motel, and single family dwelling residences. The community is relatively transient and a fair amount of mobility is reflected in the school’s enrollment figures. 

In addition to the regular instructional program, Harper offers an “Extended Day” program to students who need additional instructional assistance.   In order to provide families with affordable supervision beyond school hours, Harper provides an After School Enrichment Program and a Before-School Care Program.  

Students are provided with extra-curricular opportunities such as Jr. Beta Club, Volleyball, Basketball, Social Butterflies, Girl Scouts, Debate Team, and Safety Patrols.

The Harper Elementary School Council is an active part of the school improvement process.  Also, membership in the P.T.A. continues to grow and the organization seeks ways to be actively involved in assisting the school in fostering positive relationships between the school and parents
