Glenview Public School District 34

1401 Greenwood Road
847-998-5000

During the 1830s Europeans migrated into the region of northern Illinois. These first pioneers settled in a terrain of prairie grass and strands of oak trees known as “groves”. The signing of the 1833 “Treaty of Chicago” made peace with local Indian tribes and opened the northern Illinois territory to settlement. Encouraging the growth of the area, each family was given the opportunity to purchase 160 acres of land patents from the federal government. One of the first pioneers to settle in this new territory was George Heslington and his wife. Their daughter would become the first non-Native American child born in South Northfield (Glenview). In 1836 Mrs. Heslington’s parents, the Dewes, arrived and settled near their daughter’s family.

Recognizing the needs of each child and believing all children can learn, the mission of Glenview School District 34 is to empower children to be responsible learners and decision makers in a changing society.
