Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach

26389 Canal Road
251-981-2787

Mission:

he Mission of the Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach is to enrich the experience of our community and of our visitors through educational and interactive experiences, along with the exhibitions of fine arts. The Center cherishes its place in the rich history of our area while bringing new and innovative ideas in the arts - all in a warm and welcoming environment of southern hospitality.

History:

The Coastal Arts Center of Orange Beach was, until recently, located in the city's first hotel. Built in 1923, the boarding-house style hotel featured 11 bedrooms and one half bath upstairs (the area is still used by the Art Center for storage) while the family resided in the downstairs portion. The facility was only accessible by water until Canal Road was completed in the late 1940s.

The center, previously managed by Friends of the Arts nonprofit group, became an Orange Beach city facility in 2013. The city continues to work with the Friends of the Arts to help make the center a well-rounded oasis for the arts.

Due to severe structural damage and black mold, the building was torn down in spring 2015. Historical elements collected from the hotel (columns, wood flooring, doors & windows) will be featured in the new gallery, that is expected to be finished in late 2016.
