Berwyn Fire Department

6615 W. 16th Street
708-484-1644

The Berwyn Fire Department was established in 1922 as a “Full Time” paid force consisting of eight personnel. Prior to 1922 the fire fighters manned two fire stations with volunteers who were, by 1915, paid for each fire they fought. As the city grew, another fire station was constructed along with the new City Hall project in 1939. Of course additional personnel and equipment were added to provide fire protection and meet the needs of a growing community.

Today, the Berwyn Fire Department consists of 66 full time personnel proudly serving the citizens of Berwyn. The Department of Public Safety/Fire is housed in three fire stations strategically located to provide appropriate coverage of a city whose population is listed at 54,000 persons. The department is organized as follows:

*Fire Chief

* 4 Deputy Chiefs (Shift Commanders)

*Training Officer

*12 Lieutenants (Company Officers)

*12 Engineers (Driver Operators)

*36 Fire Fighters
