From: Who is Malden? Filmbuilding Malden Film FestivalWho is Malden?
This is the question that 26 community members will explore as they co-create short films with help from professional filmmakers and media support. These five short films (10 to 15 minutes) will be premiered at three screening events this fall.
As part of the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program, the City of Malden and Urban Media Arts (UMA) is pleased to invite the public to enjoy a series of free screening events that will showcase short films that offer a unique lens to Malden and its people, places, nature, culture, and history. Each film screening will include a time for interactive discussion. This Who is Malden Film Series will take place as follows. We invite local businesses, individuals, and restaurants to sponsor this series.

7:00pm to 9:30pm: Voices of Malden: Who is Malden Film Series
Location: Malden City Hall, 215 Pleasant Street, Malden, MA 02148
As part of the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program, the City of Malden and Urban Media Arts (UMA) is pleased to invite the public to enjoy a series of free screening events that will showcase short films that offer a unique lens to Malden and its people, places, nature, culture, and history. Each film screening will include a time for interactive discussion.
About this event
This event will introduce the Who is Malden Film Series with two films that highlight a variety of voices from the Malden community. Each screening will follow with an interactive discussion. In addition, attendees are invited to view artwork by Rosene Wine, Grace Julian Murthy and various Gallery @57 artists that features the Malden community and places. A dessert reception will be held on the City Hall balcony (weather permitting). Music interlude provided by Christopher Ver Voort (guitar) and Francys Luis-Ravelo (voice).

Film 1 – By Kobena Bonney, Pamela Bronder-Giroux, Karen Lynch, Hannibal Rosa, and Maryanne Smith with guidance from Dan Girmus
Film 2 – By Martha Bezzat, Alex Onuoha, Jessica Frazier Vasquez, Doc Havey with guidance from Nasara Hassan

6:30pm to 8:00pm: Nature and Wellbeing - Who is Malden Film Series
Location: Lincoln Commons, Cross Street and Bryant Street, Malden, MA 02148
As part of the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program, the City of Malden and Urban Media Arts (UMA) is pleased to invite the public to enjoy a series of free screening events that will showcase short films that offer a unique lens to Malden and its people, places, nature, culture, and history. Each film screening will include a time for interactive discussion.
This film will explore the intersection of nature, health, and community. It will take place outside among the trees of Lincoln Commons. Rain location will be Teen/ Senior Center. Please bring your own picnic to enjoy on the lawn during the film.

As part of the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program, the City of Malden and Urban Media Arts (UMA) is pleased to invite the public to enjoy a series of free screening events that will showcase short films that offer a unique lens to Malden and its people, places, nature, culture, and history. Each film screening will include a time for interactive discussion.
About this event
In the beautiful and historic Wilbur Fiske Haven House, where Mystic Side Opera Company offers opera and art for the community to enjoy, two community-made films will explore how members of our community create and find identity in Malden. This includes how food, flowers, history, gatherings, clubs, and the various business establishments and natural places are part of who we are individually and together. Appetizer reception included. Interactive discussion will follow each film.

3:00pm to 5:00pm: Who is Malden Finale: Program and film highlights, panel discussion (Event #4)

As part of the Filmbuilding Malden: Our City in Motion program, the City of Malden and Urban Media Arts (UMA) is pleased to invite the public to enjoy a series of free screening events that will showcase short films that offer a unique lens to Malden and its people, places, nature, culture, and history. Each film screening will include a time for interactive discussion.
About this event
Doors to exhibition open at 2pm. Formal program begins 3pm.
The Filmbuilding Malden program culminates with a two-hour event that will highlight the overall experience, learnings, and outcome of the program. This includes reflections on the discovery based process and the power and challenges of collaboration in a diverse city like Malden. There will be a panel discussion about the “Who is Malden” discoveries, the effects of the process and films on the participants and community, and general insights about how art (film in this case) can activate creative and connected community. The program includes:
