From: Tibbits Opera Foundation and Arts CouncilColdwater, MI - Tibbits Young Audiences will hold auditions for its spring musical “Jack and the Giant” on December 4 and 5 at 5pm at Tibbits Opera House, Coldwater.
The giant is making life pretty miserable for Jack, his mother and the entire kingdom. Jack is even forced to sell his beloved dancing cow for magic beans. And where does Jack go? That’s right! Jack goes up the beanstalk and into the castle where he not only fights Gogmagog, the giant, but the malicious Troll as well. By the end of this special tale, the cow is returned, the chicken learns how to lay golden eggs and the good life returns to the kingdom.
Auditions are open to any student in fourth through eighth grades. Between 45 and 50 students are expected to be cast. Students should bring a current, non-returnable photo, their completed audition form, and be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Students will audition in small groups and be asked to introduce themselves, read parts from the script, sing a familiar children's song, and do some simple dance moves.
Auditions will be held on stage at Tibbits Opera House,14 S. Hanchett St, Coldwater. Students need only attend one time. Audition forms and portions of the script that will be used for auditions are available at Tibbits.org.
The first read through will be December 7 at 4:30pm with a parent meeting at 6pm and will be held at Hope Church. Regular rehearsals will start Jan. 8, 2024 and will be held at Hope Church. Rehearsals are Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30-6:30; not all roles meet all days. The show will be presented March 14-16, 2024 at Tibbits Opera House.
“Jack and the Giant” will be directed by Julia Littley with musical direction by Jayne Lillis and produced by Tirsha Odisher. This production is generously sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Coldwater. Students involved will learn characterization, blocking, costuming, makeup and all aspects of a stage production.
Tibbits Young Audiences offers programs both for and by area youth to develop their interest in the arts. Two shows yearly, a non-musical in the fall and a musical in the spring, provide students an enjoyable introduction to the world of theatre. By putting on a show, they learn teamwork, discipline, theatre skills, self confidence and an appreciation for the arts.
