The Florida Orchestra Brings Back Sing Out Tampa Bay on March 13, 2024

The Florida Orchestra is bringing back Sing Out Tampa Bay - open to anyone who loves to sing along with the orchestra - conducted by Music Director Michael Francis, the orchestra announced today. The community concert, which has been on pause since the Covid pandemic, will return at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg. Registration is open now for the onstage community chorus of singers from throughout Tampa Bay.

Maestro Francis and the orchestra started the concert in the 2015-16 season to unite residents from all corners of Tampa Bay as one voice with The Florida Orchestra. There are two ways to participate:

-- Onstage chorus: Singers must register in advance for the onstage chorus, conducted by Maestro Francis. Church or other groups are welcome, no training or auditions required. A $40 fee includes music, rehearsals and T-shirts. To register, go to FloridaOrchestra.org or click here. Space is limited, and spots are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Deadline to register is Feb. 12.

-- Or patrons can simply sing along from the audience. General admission is pay what you can at the door.

This year’s concert includes familiar favorites from Broadway, film, symphonic and popular repertoire, including:

• Medley from The Sound of Music
• Selections from the Broadway musical Rent
• Bill Withers’ Lean on Me
• Pharrell Williams’ Happy from Despicable Me 2
• Pure Imagination from Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory
• Carl Orff’s O Fortuna from Carmina Burana
• Ode to Joy from Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9
