Orpheus SANG!

Orchestra Lumos came roaring back with our season launch Orpheus Sings. Our trip to the Underworld, hosted by TONY winner for Hadestown, André De Shields, was well-received.

As subscriber Gillian Marshall put it:

"Brilliant...nothing short of brilliant!   Last night's concert took my breath away... I can't believe Anwen Deng is 'only' fifteen - a truly gifted pianist...her dexterity and fluidity are phenomenal. And the uniqueness of the multi-talented André De Shields as narrator - truly a commanding presence.  Having a Host at each concert this season is an inspired innovation for Orchestra Lumos!"

If you missed the concert, please enjoy this video clip (below) featuring both 15-year old piano wunderkind Anwen Deng, who gave a mature and thoughtful interpretation of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4, plus the Orchestra's finale with Jacques Offenbach's Overture to Orpheus in the Underworld.

The concert was dedicated to The Stern Family for their decades of support to Stamford Symphony/Orchestra Lumos. We were delighted that Louise Stern attended the Sunday performance and is pictured here with Anwen Deng.

Music and Wellbeing

Last season our musicians took part in our Music and Wellbeing program at Stamford Hospital. It was very well-received and we made a short video highlighting the incredible work our musicians undertook with conductor and music therapist, Barbara Yahr.  Please click below to view it.

RIP our photocopier

Our photocopier is in intensive care and won't make it, and frankly it is driving us all crazy! 

If anyone has a color copier they could donate, or if a really wonderful person would buy one for us, we would be grateful forever!

It's musical weeks coming up.....

We've been asked if the Orchestra still offers free tickets to students under 18.  Yes, we do! 

All students under 18, accompanied by an adult, come for free to Orchestra Lumos classical weekend concerts and Small Space concerts.  Please call us at 203-325-1407 x12 and ask for student tickets.

Thanks to a very generous donation we have some 2,000 CDs available for Orchestra Lumos attendees. You are welcome to visit the office and peruse them. Drop me a line at [email protected] to arrange a time to visit.

Something Better

Congratulations to Diane Parrish, wife of former chairman and current board member, Steve Parrish, on the launch of her first novel Something Better.

A lovely reunion took place last Saturday at the Palace Theatre. 

Acting Patron Services Manager, Lis Sinniger (left) and our new Development Administrator, Lisa Rich, were reunited for the first time since they both worked at the Palace fifteen years ago.
