Natural Gas Prices Are Rising

January bills are likely to be shockingly high. An unprecedented cold snap across the nation in part has caused natural gas market prices in the West to more than double between December and January – to the tune of 128% since December.  As a result, gas customers can expect to see higher gas bills in the coming weeks.  As natural gas prices have reached unprecedented levels on the West Coast, SoCalGas continues to diligently work to secure cost-effective natural gas supplies on behalf of residential and small business customers.

Tips to Help Reduce Natural Gas Usage

Here are some useful tips to help customers reduce natural gas usage, keeping in mind that not every one of these tips will work for everyone:

Lowering your thermostat three to five degrees – if health permits – can save up to 10 percent on heating costs.
Installing proper caulking and weather-stripping can save roughly 10 to 15 percent on heating and cooling bills.
Washing clothes in cold water saves up to 10 percent on water heating costs.
Consider turning down the temperature on your water heater.
Limit the use of non-essential natural gas appliances such as spas, pool heaters, and fireplaces.

Need Help Paying Your Gas Bill?

If you're having difficulty paying your natural gas bill, the Gas Assistance Fund (GAF) may be able to provide you, or someone you know, with a one-time grant for the amount of the gas bill, not to exceed $100.00. These funds are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and eligible customers are able to apply until the funds are depleted.

The Gas Assistance Fund is a joint effort of SoCalGas® and United Way of Greater Los Angeles. They work with non-profit organizations throughout our service territory to administer the program.
