From: City Of EasthamptonPVTU Receives Grant for Brook Trout Study
Pioneer Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (the national, non-profit, cold water conservation organization) has been awarded a 10K Embrace-A-Stream grant from TU to survey and study the wild brook trout population in the Swift River in Belchertown, MA. Only thirteen chapters nation-wide received this competitive grant based on priorities of protect, conserve and restore America’s cold water fisheries for trout and salmon.
The study will be a three-year program to monitor the movement, numbers of individuals, and survival rate of wild brook trout, with recommendations for their continued viability.
PVTU is partnering with the MA Outdoor Heritage Foundation and the MA Dept. of Fish & Wildlife who will lead the study with Chapter volunteers.
Pioneer Valley TU is an all-volunteer conservation group with around 400 members in Hampshire and Hamden Counties. TU has over 300,000 members and 400 chapters nation-wide.
