From: Springfield Public LibrarySpringfield, OR - The Springfield community is warmly invited to join in a meaningful observance of Día de Muertos with a month-long series of events hosted by the Springfield Public Library and Springfield History Museum. This free, community celebration provides an opportunity to honor loved ones, celebrate life, and engage with rich cultural traditions.
From now until November 7, community members are encouraged to bring personal memorial items and artisan crafts to display as part of the Community Memorial and Ofrenda at the Springfield History Museum. Items can be turned in at the Springfield Public Library.
On Saturday, November 2, artist Jessica Zapata of Eugene Arte Latino will lead a special workshop at the Springfield Public Library. This workshop offers hands-on opportunities to create and reflect.
Then, on November 8, experience an evening of remembrance and festivities beginning with a procession from City Hall to the Springfield History Museum. The celebration will feature live music from Piel de Canela and Mariachi Cuervo, sugar skull decorating led by artists Jessica Zapata and Diana Ramirez, an interactive community art project with the Springfield Arts Commission, and a dedication of the community ofrenda. Participants in the community art project will have the chance to display their pieces in the City Hall Gallery. Light refreshments will be served.
This celebration, part of the 2nd Friday Art Walk, runs from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., offering an ideal evening to experience art and culture in Springfield.
This event is made possible through the generous support of the Springfield Utility Board (SUB), the Spark Fund, and community partners including the Springfield Arts Commission, Eugene Arte Latino, and Comunidad y Herencia Cultural.
